The province takes in a large rectangular area with Toowoomba on the eastern edge and stretches past Roma, south to the NSW border & north to almost Theodore.

The Surat Energy Resources Province has significant development opportunities in thermal coal (6.3 billion tonnes), coal seam gas (up to 15,000 petajoules) and coal seam gas water (60,000 megalitres per year). By the year 2030, the Queensland
Government predicted the province to provide additional gross regional product of more than $10 billion per annum And it is predicted to create by 2030 an extra 16,000 fulltime jobs. By 2030 the population in the Surat Energy Resources Province is predicted to reach 260,000.

Work will commence shortly on the site with the construction of a sewerage pumping facility and further engineering work will be completed on the optimum positioning of various structures on the site including the rail corridor.
